The elderly and chronically ill are particularly at risk due to the misuse of antibiotics in both medicine and livestock, which facilitates AMR spread. Despite some improvement among children, AMR mortality has surged among older populations. Davies stresses the urgent need for new antibiotics and significant policy changes, criticizing the current lack of economic incentives for pharmaceutical companies to develop new drugs. Without increased global action, the situation is likely to deteriorate further.
