A proposed green hydrogen project by AES Energy near Mount Paranal in Chile threatens to significantly impact the world's leading astronomical observatories by increasing light pollution. The region, home to the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope, benefits from one of Earth's least light-polluted skies, essential for advanced astronomical research. The light pollution from the INNA project could diminish the observatory's capability to study faint celestial phenomena, jeopardizing both current and future astronomical projects, like the Extremely Large Telescope. ESO urges relocating the project to protect this invaluable dark-sky location.
