James Webb Discovers 44 Distant Stars

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) achieved a groundbreaking feat by capturing images of 44 individual stars in a distant galaxy, previously considered impossible to resolve. These stars are located within the 'Dragon'—a warped image of a galaxy caused by gravitational lensing behind Abell 370, a massive galaxy cluster. This discovery, involving red supergiants similar to Betelgeuse, aids in probing dark matter characteristics. The stars' visibility fluctuated, appearing and disappearing due to the gravitational interplay within Abell 370, as noted in a study published in Nature Astronomy.
