Calcium Intake Linked to Lower Cancer Risk

A recent study published in Nature Communications highlights that consuming 300 milligrams of calcium daily from food, equivalent to an 8-ounce glass of milk, is linked to a 17% reduction in colorectal cancer risk for women. Conducted on over 540,000 women part of The Million Women Study, the research supports previous findings that calcium, from both dairy and non-dairy sources, may lower cancer risk by interacting with bile and fatty acids in the colon. However, experts stress that focusing solely on calcium without considering overall diet and lifestyle may not suffice for cancer prevention, and emphasize the importance of comprehensive dietary and lifestyle factors, including minimizing alcohol and red meat intake, for reducing cancer risk.
