India's renewable energy capacity has reached 218 GW, showcasing significant progress towards its 2030 target of 500 GW. The nation added 18.48 GW in 2023-24, driven by effective policies. A notable increase in rooftop solar installations, facilitated by the PM Surya Ghar Free Bijli Yojana, led to 4.59 GW of new capacity. The wind energy sector also grew, with 3.4 GW added, particularly in Gujarat, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.
